Rajasthan is a state in India's northwestern region. It spans 342,239 square kilometres (132,139 square miles), or 10.4% of India's total land area. The vast and unforgiving Thar Desert (also known as the Great Indian Desert) runs through it, and it shares a border with Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh provinces to the northwest and west, respectively, along the Sutlej-Indus River valley. It is bordered on the north by Punjab, on the northeast by Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, on the southeast by Madhya Pradesh, and on the southwest by Gujarat.
It has a population of more than 68 million people.
