Kingdom of Coorg (or Kodagu) was a kingdom in southern India in the present day state of Karnataka that lasted from the 16th century through 1834. It was ruled by the Ikkeri Nayaka. The kingdom was engaged in battles against the neighbouring Kingdom of Mysore from 1780 to 1790. On October 26, 1790, the then ruler Dodda Vira Rajendra signed a treaty with the British, after which Coorg became a protectorate of British India. The Coorg War began in 1834 when the then-Raja of Coorg rebelled against British control. The British violently put down the uprising and seized the kingdom, making it a colony of British India.
