Annie Besant was an Indian freedom fighter. Born on 1 October 1847, in London, she was just 5 years old when her father died. When she visited India she was appalled by the treatment of Indians under British rule. She promoted patriotism among Indians and encouraged Indians to fight against oppression. She held the post of the President of Theosophical Society until her death on September 20, 1933.
